The fastest land animal. Its speed can exceed 120 km/h, making it the fastest mammal over short distances. It achieves this extraordinary performance thanks to its slender body, long legs, and flexible spine. It hunts medium- and small-sized ruminants, and unlike felines, it does not ambush its prey but attacks it while running at high speed. Its claws are non-retractable. It is often confused with the leopard due to its similar pattern, but the cheetah is easily distinguished by the characteristic teardrop-shaped lines running down both sides of its nose.
