The Ice World Interactive Animal Exhibition uses modern technology to guide visitors through the wildlife of the polar regions. This unique building, which employs technical solutions unmatched in Europe, and its associated 2-hectare outdoor enclosure system provide a home for rare polar animal species never before seen in Hungary.
The Ice Age of 10,000 years ago is brought to life by lifelike mammoths and mammoth skeletons. From a zoological perspective, the facility is full of rare animals, with the polar bear breeding center as its main attraction. Here, in a unique setup, the largest polar bear enclosure is cooled, and visitors can even see the world’s largest land predator underwater in a 4-meter-deep pool.
A special feature is the exhibition hall for king penguins—a species never before seen in Hungary—maintained at around 0°C, but two other penguin species are also on display: the rockhopper penguin, well-known from cartoons, and the Humboldt penguin, native to warmer climates.
The outdoor exhibit area takes us to Alaska and Siberia, where the bald eagle and the Steller’s sea eagle—considered the world’s largest eagle—watch visitors from their massive perches.
A glass dome leads into the polar wolf enclosure, where we can get a glimpse into the pack’s daily life, while the life of Canada’s Indigenous peoples is showcased in the Indian camp, and the Climate Chamber models the world of the Inuit. We can see the igloos and the tools of their hunting lifestyle, all while feeling the icy breeze on our faces.
The real highlight of the animal exhibit is the Racing River, where, seated in log-like boats, the river’s current carries us through the animals, and the experience is further enhanced by lifelike sword-winged dolphin figures emerging from the water or the 10-meter waterfall in the middle of the boat, which we can slide down.
In the Ice World animal show, we can dive into the depths of the icy seas with the help of a VR submarine, but the massive aquariums also showcase the world of the icy seas’ fish in real life.
