It is one of the largest penguins, with adults reaching up to 95 centimeters in height. While clumsy on land, it moves almost as if flying in the water. It dives to depths of several meters to feed primarily on fish. It is native to the southern oceans and the sub-Antarctic islands surrounding Antarctica. Its breeding colonies are located on islands between 45° and 55° south latitude. The birds’ whereabouts outside the breeding season are not well known.
